School Farms Real Food Win
Award-winning chefs, TV stars and a sporting hero tasted success when they chose Uttoxeter Community Farm (at Thomas Alleyne’s School) as this year’s Real Sausage Champion at the Real Food Festival in London.
School farms from across the UK were in competition for the coveted title, which involved rearing a piglet on the farm and then creating a sizzling sausage using their own unique recipe. While Uttoxeter took the best tasting sausage prize, Oathall Community College were runners up for secondary school, and Edwalton Primary School in the primary category.
Former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio, London Food Czar Rosie Boycott, chef Raymond Blanc and TV chocolate guru Willie Harcourt-Cooze were among the judges.
Phillip Lowery, founder of the Real Food Festival says: “Our festival is designed to encourage children to understand exactly what makes great food and what better way for them to see this than by producing their own great quality sausage and to compete against their peers”.
The School Farms Network and School Food Matters were both involved in encouraging school farms to take part in the competition.
