Leeds Event 28 Sep
Leeds & Wakefield event on Wednesday 28 September, 9.30am-3.30 pm at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, Leeds.
The event will start at the farm's inspirational EpiCenter, itself an example of sustainability and minimal impact. The day at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm includes a chance to find out about the Co-op and its farms, local organisations who can help you 'tread lightly' and a tour of the farm. There's a choice of four one-hour workshops. Lunch is provided by the Farm's kitchen and includes produce from the farm.
Morning workshops
- An Introduction to Bee-Keeping (Tim Hibberd, Bee-keeper at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm)
- An Introduction to Country Wines: In this session we will look at the how to make wine, what equipment you need and other considerations to get you on the way to never buying wine again. Samples to try. (Suzi High)
Afternoon workshops
- An Introduction to Medicinal Plants: Using readily available plants to make simple remedies. Take away a sample preparation. (Annwen Jones)
- An Introduction to Poultry Keeping: The workshop will cover environment - housing etc; health; feeding, bedding and watering; disposal; re-stocking/buying chickens. It includes the opportunity to handle various fancy breeds and see a modern laying flock. (Meanwood Valley Urban Farm)

About Meanwood Valley Urban Farm

Located within a deprived area of Leeds, the farm provides:
- An environmental education service to schools where children from inner city schools can learn first hand from nature and farm animals.
- Training leading to qualifications for young people (14 to 19) who do not engage in mainstream education.
- Training for special needs adults in horticulture

- Summer holiday environmentally themed playscheme
- A leisure resource for inner city dwellers, accessible and cheap
- Maintenance of a 24 acre site which forms a green wedge of countryside cutting through the inner city which supports a rich diversity of wildlife.

Directions
Meanwood Valley Urban Farm is a 10-minute bus journey from Leeds railway station. Bus nos: 51, 52 ,55 from Briggate, City Centre to Meanwood Road Ridge Grove stop. Cross road and walk along pathway opposite the stop to the entrance to the Farm on Sugarwell Road.
