About Stockton Community Allotment
Preston Lane Allotments was opened by Stockton Borough Council in 1948 and is part of Preston Park. In 1995 the site became self managed and since then has become the leading allotment site in Stockton Borough. The site is four acres with 58 tenants on full and half sized plots. In 2005 the Basic Allotment Gardening Course was started in conjunction with Stockton Adult Education (now Tees Achieve) together with the Saturday Club which has proved very popular.
We run a 10 week course in the Spring and a five week course in the Autumn. The Saturday Club runs from early March until Christmas. Both the courses and the club enable interested people to learn by doing how to grow food crops and the produce is shared out. The site has participated in Digging for Victory on UKTV Gold and won second prize in the 2007 Kitchen Garden magazine competition,Community Gardens category. We have pioneered bee-keeping on allotments locally and have also hosted a resident artist during her Fine Arts degree project.
