Camden Green Fair:
The fair attracted some 20,000 visitors this year with FCFCG London staff organising an area where community projects could showcase their work, network and promote their work to the new mayor of Camden.
A number of children’s activities were available, with the chance to milk lifesize replica cow Bryony, from Vauxhall City Farm, attracting hundreds of willing young volunteers. Freightliners Farm brought a poultry display, flowers and herbs, and the blacksmiths from Surrey Docks farm brought their mobile cycle-powered forge - another crowd-puller. Kentish Town City Farm provided a variety of children’s activities, and Hackney City Farm brought their donkey, sheep, goats, rabbits and chickens.
Hampstead Heath Volunteers, located in the Federation area of the fair offered a headband-making activity for children. They said working with FCFCG staff was the best thing about the day: "FCFCG had a great team and a good rapport with everyone. It made the village green lively and provided a fantastic range of activities."
Stands were also on show from the Phoenix school farm, Culpeper Community Garden, Calthorpe Project, Hammersmith Community Gardens, Phoenix Garden and the new Eco-Minds garden.
At the LEEF (London Environmental Education Forum) stand visitors could make a wallet out of tetra pak containers, and at the Federation stand we distributed nearly a thousand of our London maps.
Many food-related activities were on offer to the public – including advice on growing food in containers, cooking demonstrations throughout the afternoon, and pasta making, which was very popular with children, as was the classic ‘making animals from vegetables’ activity. There was also advice available on community food growing and how to make seed bombs.
FCFCG’s London team would like to thank all project staff and volunteers who worked so hard to make this area a success, with special thanks to everyone who helped with set-up and take-down.
